Optimist International Oratorical Contest

Cordell Vrbka Runner-Up in the 2020 NE District Oratorical “Zoom” Contest

SHS Senior and 2020 graduate, Cordell Vrbka of Malcolm, was selected the First Runner-up at the 2020  Nebraska District (State Level) Optimist Speech/Oratorical Contest held in “Zoom Format” on June 6, 2020, replacing the traditional formatted contest scheduled at the Seward Civic Center on May 2nd, due to the recent Corona-19 Virus. Cordell was presented a certificate, and a $1500.00 scholarship from Optimist International for his efforts and presentation. His parents are John and Becky Vrbka of Malcolm. Seward High had three state qualifiers in the contest. Along with Vrbka were Alex Sick and Kylie Edgington, both SHS Juniors.  Alex is the daughter of Erik and Jeanna Sick. Kylie is the daughter of Joe and Staci Edgington.  They were each asked to present a four to five minute speech on the topic “Is Optimism the Key to Achieving the Dreams you iMagine?”  Each of the contestants received a certificate of appreciation for their hard work.
