SHS Academic Decathlon Team Places Second at Regional Contest

The SHS Academic Decathlon team is co-sponsored by the Seward Optimist Club and the High Ability Learner Program (HAL) for the School District of Seward. Seward has competed in this national academic program for over two decades. The 2021-2022 Seward High Academic Decathlon team placed second in the Medium School Division Regional on-line contest held January 12, 2022, at the SHS Library, losing to regional champ Omaha Gross. Only Omaha Gross will advance to the State Finals. Coach/Sponsor for the team is Noelle Baker. Monitors for the testing day included Seward Optimist members Linda Flyr and Lana Urban. The team members earned a total of 40 medals – 9 first place, 18 second place, and 13 third place. Two students medaled in every category and all members medaled in Math! The Seward Team Top Score was achieved by Ethan Wilkinson. The theme of this year’s contest was “Water – A Most Essential Resource.” They were also given the novel “Sea Wolf” by Jack London.
