Freedom Run

2022 Optimist Club Freedom Run

On July 4th the Seward Optimist Club once again held their annual 10K Freedom Run and the 2 Mile Fun Run starting at 7:00 AM at the Dowding Memorial Swimming Pool in Seward. Registration is done online through www.getmeregistered.com This year 235 runners registered and 216 ran the race. Our oldest runner was 80 and our youngest runners were twins just 15 months old. We had 61 10K runners and 155 2 Mile runners.

The Optimist volunteers arrived by 5:30 AM to set up the race area and man the turnaround locations on the race route. Once the last runner had crossed the finish line and medals had been awarded to age group winners, the cleanup process began and we were finished by 9:00 AM. Alan Higley of Precision Race Results was our timer again this year and the setup and timing went smoothly. Race times were posted in the area soon after runners crossed the finish line and then final race results were posted online at www.onlineraceresults.com.

The annual Freedom Run is our largest annual fundraiser to generate money that we use to support youth in the Seward community. This year this race generated $8,000 that will go to youth projects, scholarships, and various other needy causes supporting kids in our area.

We want to thank all of our 47 sponsors for their generous support and also thank all of the runners that participated and once again made this another successful event.

These runners ‘really dressed up’ for this summer’s race!
