Freedom Run

2021 Optimist Club Freedom Run

On the 4th of July, the Seward Optimist Club annually sponsors two races: a 2-Mile and a 10K to raise funds for our projects supporting the youth of our community.  The races have become a significant part of the annual Seward 4th of July community celebration and families often re-unite in Seward each summer to run together in this event. Races begin and conclude under the Fair Ground Arch west of downtown Seward. In the past over 300 runners have registered from as many as 22 states. Runners from age 3 to 78 have enjoyed participating in this event.

The 2021 Seward Optimist Club Freedom Run returned to mostly normal conditions after a year of Covid-19. The 4th of July Celebration in Seward was well attended and our annual Seward Optimist Club Freedom Run also had good numbers and great weather for the race.

Forty-one local sponsors generously contributed to our annual Seward Optimist Club event and were proudly displayed on this year’s red/white/blue race t-shirts. Precision Race Results timed the race and registration was handled through

A total of 174 entrants from 14 states participated in the race with 64 runners in the 10K (17 youth under age 18) and 110 runners in the 2-mile (45 youth under age 18).

The Seward Dowding Swimming Pool, Union Pacific Railroad, and our local Rescue and EMT personnel aided in our efforts. Optimist members arrived to work at the swimming pool around 5:30AM and departed around 9:15AM completing another successful Optimist Club fundraiser to support youth activities in the future. We look forward to hosting this event again next year!
